Join us at St Joseph AME Church, 2521 Fayetteville St, Durham NC for a day of sewing, learning, and growing! Bring your own project or work on a kit we provide to make a quilt, a bag or a pillowcase to donate to the community. Bring your own sewing machine or use one of ours! We provide assistance and guidance as needed and we also often have classes as well.
Connecting with Threads is proud to teach a local Girl Scout Troop in Durham, NC how to sew and also give back to their community. We meet on Saturdays for four hours and teach them basic sewing techniques so that they are able to make Christmas ornaments, pillow cases, flannel blankets, bags, quilts, and other handmade items to be donated to the community.
We are proud to begin a new program in partnership with the Durham Public Library. CWT will be teaching teens how to make fidget blankets which will be distributed by the library to adults with dementia through their outreach program.
Connecting with Threads members graciously donate their time to create various kits which are used to create handmade items to be donated to others in our community. We purchase fabric and put together a kit containing all of the materials needed to create a quilt, bag, or other item which supports our local communities. CWT members sew the item and provide it back to us for donation.
We have groups in four states that serve as collection and distribution points for handmade items, including quilts , pillowcases, and bags. Handmade items are donated to local hospitals, Meals on Wheels, and to nurture others in the community. We coordinate efforts with local churches, Project Linus, Ryan's Case for Smiles, and disaster relief organizations.
