We are a diverse group of people who provide education about sewing and quilting in order to nurture our broader community by giving them quilts, bags, and other handmade products.
On Saturday, June 14, 2025 CWT will hold our second Quilt A Long to benefit Sleep in Heavenly Peace. Our goal is to create 14+ quilts to donate to their organization. We would LOVE to have you join us!
If you can't join us that specific day, you can join us in spirit and quilt any other day you would like.
If you are not able to join us in person that day, we will have a Zoom session available.
The goal is to simply create 14+ quilts for Sleep in Heavenly Peace, Durham. For more information on this organization, click HERE.
You will select a yard of fabric from our collection (Click here to see what is available) and then purchase 3-4 yards to go with it. We will provide the pattern, yard of fabric you select, the backing, and batting through community donations. We will even do the quilting for you -- or you can choose to quilt it yourself.
If you would like to use a pattern of your own, that is fine also!
You can choose to cut your fabric ahead of time -- or cut it the day of the event.
REGISTER BELOW and we will send you more details!
Date: Saturday, June 14
Time: 10am-5pm
Place: St Joseph AME Church
RSVP by May 31, 2025
Our first big event was a success!
Seventeen people joined us to make a 9 Patch Disappearing quilt.
First, we made twelve 9 Patch blocks.
Then, we cut them all up and mixed them around to create the most beautiful quilt tops for our community! We will sandwich them, quilt them, and bind them and they will be ready!
We love to have new people join us!
We support a Girl Scout troop in Durham by providing 20 young women with instruction on how to sew. We started with the basics and advanced to making flannel blankets for a local hospital, small bags for the girls to take home with them, Christmas ornaments for a local community, and have moved onto making pillowcases both for donation to Ryans Case for Smiles as well as for the girls to take home. We are following our mission to share our love of sewing, educate others on how to sew, and encouraging them to give items they make back to their community.
We held two classes for teens at the Durham Public Library. The completed items will be distributed to community members with dementia by the library's outreach team. This outreach team visits community members who are unable to get out to the library themselves and provides them with books and support. Learn more about the OASIS program here: https://durhamcountylibrary.org/older-adult-and-shut-in-service/.
We welcome all teens and adult helpers to join us! If you are an adult helper, contact us at connectingwiththreads2@gmail.com for more information on how you can help with this program!

In December, through a generous donation, CWT members were able to make 6 quilts which were presented to individuals who live in a community group home and have been attending St Joseph AME regularly. Our CWT members and their pastor did a GREAT job of honoring the work. I love the biblical references to the importance of sewing.
